More than any other industry, fashion treats a far larger portion of its creative output and shares resources that can be freely reused and transformed by other creators. There are great lessons to be learned from the Fashion Free Culture. In this video Johanna Blakely does a great job in explaining how copyrighting inhibits one from being as creative as they can be.
Can you imagine the limitations if everything had copyright laws – what would happen to the process of design? It's necessary to be inspired by others ideas and trends in order to revolutionize another ideas.
Even when we stop to think about digital technology and how it has revolutionize creativity it forces us to look at things differently it truly has changed our expression vs. idea concept. We no longer recognize music that sits on our shelf or a book we can hold because its in a digital format. There is no physical reality we have entered a whole new creative world to explore with more innovation. Now is time for us to take in what the fashion industry can teach us and use what already exist and build from it.
